SMC’s Contract Injection Molding Division (TMI Plastics) is a full service injection and insert injection molding partner. Operating 23 presses of various shot sizes. Offering a broad range of up-to-date equipment and methods partnered with our machining, stamping and assembly divisions, SMC can supply anything from a single low volume molded part to a high volume sub-assembly. With the shortest lead times in the business, often times 3 weeks or less, we can make your business more responsive to demand fluctuations. We also provide a full range of services such as engineering and many secondary operations.

Specifications

Injection Molding Capabilities		Operating 23 presses ranging from a 2 ounce shot size in our smallest 25 ton press to 80 ounce shot size in our 500 ton machine we can mold a broad range of parts. All of our presses are hydraulic, horizontal toggle machines with the exception of one vertical press used primarily for insert molding. We run both manual and automatic unscrewing molds as well as insert molds. Threaded inserts, bushings or other metallic inserts can be supplied by our in-house precision machining department. All of our presses can be equipped with driers and/or chillers as necessary to run your parts. Click here for a complete equipment list.

Materials		We run standard engineering grade materials, including filled and unfilled. While we normally source the resin we are happy to use customer supplied material when required. Our facility has all of the necessary driers and chillers to ensure that your parts are made to the highest possible dimensional and cosmetic quality standards. Materials commonly run include: Nylon Acetal PVC Polypropylene Polyethylene Polystyrene Polyester Polycarbonate Santoprene and other TPE’s Others as needed

Engineering		We welcome the opportunity to assist our customers on both product and mold design. Our engineers will work with you to ensure that your part is designed to maximize manufacturability while still ensuring dimensional integrity. With our in-house 3D printer, we can supply low cost SLA models to verify fit, function or aesthetics. Our engineers work with the following software: AutoCAD SolidWorks Part Maker Inventor

Assembly		We also offer a complete assembly department where your injection molded components can be matched up with stamped and/or machined parts from our other divisions to produce a sub-assembly ready for your installation.

Quality		Our quality system is ISO-9001 certified. As a supplier to numerous medical, defense and industrial equipment manufacturers we can supply whatever quality metrics required. Please link to our equipment list for a summary of our quality equipment.

Tooling		We will assist you in sourcing the most competent and competitive mold designer and manufacturer or you can provide the tooling. Either way we will make sure that your mold is carefully run and stored in a climate controlled environment. Basic mold maintenance is available at our on site tool room. We run both manual and automatic unscrewing molds as well as insert molding of thread inserts, bushings, etc. Contact our sales department for more information.
